Yuriy Shukhevych - His Life and Activity (briefly). |
Yuriy Shuhevych was born in a very intelligent and well-known Shuhevych family. Being imprisoned in 1944 an the age of 11 because of political views of his parents (creation of the Ukrainian Independent State), he has courageously taken out long-term tortures, has not refused his father, family, shown a heroic example of related feelings which form a basis of any state. During 46 years of the political imprisonment in children's homes, prisons and exiles, he took active part in the Ukrainian liberation movement. Sacrificing his own life, he has categorically rejected numerous offers to repent, refuse the Ukrainian national idea, to betray struggle for independence of Ukraine. Thus he has shown heroism, high moral values, strength of spirit, indestructible will, unselfishness and fidelity to Ukraine.
Being imprisoned, despite of danger of death, he carried out his oustanding remedial activity. He appealed to world community, governments of countries, international organizations for protection of constitutional laws, freedom of the person and democratic principles of functioning of all state structures. Endowing own life, he constantly works on creation and development of democratic independent Ukraine.
In connection with a long-term struggle against totalitarian state systems, he has been repeatedly convicted for long terms in prison and, as a result, has completely lost sight and health. Having come back to Ukraine as a disabled of the first group, he is self-denyingly and tirelessly engaged in political activity, asserting national interests of Ukraine.
In the Independent Ukraine, he is an outstanding and disinterested founder of the state, the public figure and example of ethical and moral standards of behaviour for the future generations in Ukraine.
